AMS PSR

On behalf of the CPS, we are looking for a Head of Governance Inside IR35  for a 5 months  contract based Hybrid one day per week in London. 

The CPS prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. The CPS is independent, and they make their decisions independently of the police and government.

The Head of Governance runs the corporate governance function for Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), a Non-Ministerial Department with a specific governance structure which ensures both its operational independence and accountability to Parliament and the public. The function sits within the Private Office, a small team at the heart of the CPS, supporting the DPP, the Director Generals, Directors, and Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) on a range of strategic issues covering both operational and corporate matters. You will have oversight of, and be supported by, two Deputy Governance Managers who help deliver the corporate governance function.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. 

As a Head of Governance, your main responsibilities will be:

• Delivering effective governance in line with civil service best practice, ensuring effective structures, processes and record management for all corporate governance activity, and keeping these under constant review.
• Providing support to the Non-Executive Directors, the CPS Board and its sub-committees (the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee and Remuneration Committee), and the Shadow Board.
• Supporting superintendence and governance obligations under the Framework Agreement, including through effective meetings of the Ministerial Strategic Board, and support regular review of the Framework Agreement.
• Building and maintaining effective relationships with NEDs, senior leaders across the CPS, CPS Private Office, and the AGO sponsorship team, and.
• Providing oversight of the CPS Honours process, including secretariat of CPS Honours Committee

Essential:

• Significant experience managing and delivering governance activities within a complex organisational environment.
• Proven strategic leadership experience, including the ability to provide direction, drive organisational priorities, and influence decision-making at a senior level.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with a demonstrated ability to build credibility and maintain effective working relationships with senior leaders, board members, and external partners
• Experience working within the public sector or a similarly regulated environment, with a strong understanding of governance, accountability, and public service frameworks.

Desirable:

• Line management experience
