On behalf of NS&I (National Savings & Investments), we are looking for Financial Control Officer (Inside IR35) for a 9 month contract with possible extension, on a hybrid basis - 40% in the office - London, Glasgow, Lythan, Durham

This role is subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard and financial credit checks.
As a Financial Control Officer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving any unreconciled items.
- Prepare and post monthly journals to ensure accuracy within the financial ledger.
- Produce directors’ expense reporting and other management reports as required.
- Support the weekly payment run, ensuring payments are accurate and processed on time.
- Assist with resolving issues relating to invoices, purchase orders, and goods received notices.
- Prepare and analyse the monthly prompt payment report.
- Carry out supplier reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.
- Produce accounts payable reports when required.
- Conduct sample checks on items posted to the general ledger, ensuring compliance with financial policies and reporting findings appropriately.
- Work with the Finance Business Partnering team to promote good financial practices across the organisation.
- Support the maintenance of Finance intranet content by highlighting when documents require updates.
- Assist with quarterly VAT preparation and reconciliations.
- Provide support during internal and external audits, including year-end and interim reviews.
- Review and help maintain the financial systems issues log, ensuring information remains accurate and up to date.
- Provide cover and support for the Accounts Payable Officer when required.
Essential:
- Experience working within a finance team with an understanding of key financial control frameworks.
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to analyse financial data accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when inputting and reviewing data.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Proactive approach with the ability to quickly adapt and contribute to the team.
- Ability to work independently and hit the ground running.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience using a finance or accounting system.
Desirable:
- Currently studying towards a recognised accounting qualification.
