On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for an Environmental Specialist for a 8 month contract based hybrid in either East Midlands, Anglia or London Stratford.

Role:
This role is ideal for an environmental professional who enjoys balancing site-based inspections, stakeholder engagement, compliance monitoring, and technical report writing.
Working across multiple locations, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, driving sustainability improvements, and supporting operational teams with expert environmental guidance.
This position offers a varied workload, combining field inspections, performance monitoring, stakeholder collaboration, and environmental management activities within a large and complex infrastructure environment.
As an Environmental Specialist, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Provide expert environmental advice and guidance to support legislative compliance across operational activities.
- Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and surveillance activities at depots and operational sites.
- Produce high-quality environmental reports, action plans, inspections findings, and compliance documentation.
- Update and maintain environmental records, documentation, and management system requirements.
- Monitor environmental performance and track the closure of non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Support the implementation of environmental management systems and sustainability initiatives.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, contractors, and environmental stakeholders.
- Identify environmental risks, opportunities for improvement, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Contribute to the development of environmental plans, procedures, standards, and guidance documents.
- Support environmental awareness campaigns, presentations, and communications across the business.
- Assist in monitoring sustainability performance and contributing to performance reporting.
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in environmental report writing and producing technical documentation.
- Experience carrying out environmental fieldwork, inspections, audits, or compliance assessments.
- Strong knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Good understanding of Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a rail, infrastructure, construction, utilities, or other highly regulated operational environment.
- Knowledge of the operational railway environment.
- Understanding of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
