Description & Requirements

Department for Business, Innovation, Science & Trade

On behalf of DBIST, we are looking for a Business Analyst (Inside IR35) for a 4 Month (until December 2026) contract based in London (2 days per week on site).

Description:

The wider Exports work over the next 12 months spans a significant period of transition and service evolution. This includes supporting a current export tool as it moves into live service, ensuring a structured handover to the live services team with clear documentation, agreed processes, and shared understanding of operational responsibilities.

Alongside this, the team will begin a new discovery phase to explore future export-related opportunities, requiring analysis of current documentation produced in a higher-level discovery, understanding the wider business context and export pain points, user needs, service gaps, and potential improvements. In this context, Business Analysis support would help provide continuity across delivery and discovery, ensuring that knowledge is carried forward, operational readiness is considered, and new work is exposed through well-structured and well understood requirements.

As a Business Analyst, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Translate business problems and product objectives into clear, structured requirements, user flows, and actionable delivery plans.
  • Define and document functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring they are complete, testable, unambiguous, and inclusive of edge cases.
  • Maintain backlog quality by decomposing epics into implementation-ready user stories, creating robust acceptance criteria, and ensuring traceability across requirements and delivery items.
  • Map, analyse, and document current and future state processes, identifying dependencies, risks, failure points, and operational constraints to support successful delivery.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment by managing cross-team dependencies, assessing impacts of change, facilitating collaboration, and maintaining visibility across connected workstreams.
  • Support user research and validation activities by translating insights into actionable artefacts, requirements, journeys, scenarios, and backlog enhancements while maintaining clear links between research findings and delivered solutions.

Essential:

  • Strong experience as a Business Analyst
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience coordinating cross-team dependencies.
  • Ability to translate user research and feedback into actionable improvements and delivery outcomes.
  • Proven backlog management skills, including story decomposition and acceptance criteria creation.
  • Experience mapping and improving end-to-end business processes and workflows.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
