Description & Requirements

On behalf of FCDO, we are looking for a Sectoral Adviser (G7) - (Agriculture Climate and Economy) Inside IR35 for a part time 12 month contract based in London (Hybrid working - Part time 3 days per week)

The main duties and responsibilities of the Sectoral Adviser (G7) - (Agriculture Climate and Economy) would be:

  • Technical inputs and evidence to Afghanistan policy and programming across livelihoods, agriculture, climate and the economy.
  • Wider political economy analysis and advice on effective interactions with in-country stakeholders for the delivery of programmes, including line ministries and public sector institutions.
  • Support to liaison and engagement with delivery partners including UN and NGOs.


Essential:

  • Expertise across livelihoods, agriculture, climate and the economy, able to demonstrate at least ‘practitioner’ level in the technical competencies for Food and Agriculture OR Climate, Environment, Infrastructure and Energy.
  • Understanding of the workings of Afghan ministries and public sector institutions and ability to advise on effective interactions for the delivery of programmes, including through own contacts and networks.
  • Ability to produce rapid bespoke analysis, including on cross-cutting issues.
  • Understanding of policy and programme delivery, from design through to implementation and appraisal.
  • Experience working with HMG and international partners in Afghanistan.
  • Essential to have either Dari or Pashto language skills (desirable to have both).
