Description & Requirements

On behalf of Government Legal Department (GLD), we are looking for a HR Digital Improvement Officer (Inside R35) for a 4 Month contract until end of March 2026 based  London or Leeds 3 days per week.


GLD HR provide strategic partnering, professional advice and in-house HR and payroll services to over 3,500 employees across GLD, AGO (Attorney General’s Officer) and HMCPSI (HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate). As set out in GLD’s People Strategy, the HR Senior Management Team (HR SMT) are committed to building a data-smart and data-capable HR function, supported by AI and digital technology to deliver innovative, efficient and effective activities and processes.

We are pleased to offer a short term opportunity (until end March 2026) for an experienced HR professional with a passion for digital innovation and continuous improvement to develop HR SMT’s understanding of how the latest AI usage and trends across GLD and the Civil Service People Function can be adopted to optimise performance, improve customer experience and drive efficiencies and improvements across HR activities.


This role requires a blend of HR expertise, digital fluency, and change management skills to help SMT develop a digital HR strategy that supports overall functional and organisational priorities.


The role will be largely research driven with the right candidate being expected to quickly develop a solid understanding of team priorities and work on their own initiative to develop contacts and networks to gather information and make recommendations.


As a HR Digital Improvement Officer, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Review current Copilot usage in HR to identify best practices, challenges, and develop guidance for optimisation and future rollout.
  • Collaborate with GLD’s AI team to align with departmental AI adoption plans and explore early adoption opportunities for HR.
  • Engage with HR SMT to understand priorities and research AI tools used across government, identifying potential pilots and adoption opportunities.
  • Support HR SMT with expert guidance on the security, privacy, ethical, and cultural implications of AI, ensuring appropriate governance is in place.
  • Partner with Digital to enhance the use of O365 tools across HR for improved efficiency and collaboration.
  • Analyse AI’s impact on future HR roles using research (e.g., Gartner) to inform capability building, workforce planning, and strategic resourcing.


Essential:


  • Experienced HR professional with deep knowledge of employee lifecycle processes and a track record of delivering digital HR services to enhance efficiency and user experience.
  • Strong understanding of emerging HR technologies and AI tools, with proven ability to align digital initiatives to people strategies and drive innovation.
  • Excellent communicator, skilled in distilling complex information into clear summaries and presentations for senior stakeholders.
  • Proactive relationship builder, able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and foster strong networks with senior leaders.
