On behalf of The Insolvency Services, we are looking for a System Accountant (Inside IR35) for a 6 Month Contract.
Hybrid - up to 2 days per week in office - flexible locations (Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham)
Remote - for the right candidate only.

This exciting role sits within the System Accounting team, who work to support changes to the Agency's finance systems, and to support with live issues or incidents affecting these systems.
This System Accountant role is a great opportunity to help improve and assure financial systems in the Insolvency Service, ensuring that Finance and operational teams can work efficiently and safely to deliver great service to the public.
As a System Accountant, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Lead Finance engagement with a project to replace the current accounting system, as subject-matter expert for Finance systems.
- Work closely with SMEs across Finance to understand current processes and requirements and identify how these are best met by modern accounting and ERP systems.
- Ensure the future design aligns to relevant accounting standards, best practice and Government Functional Standards, protecting the Agency's ability to meet statutory accounting and control obligations and best practice in financial reporting and insight.
- Identify and support opportunities for improvement, including identifying requirements for future financial systems, testing and change impacting.
- Engage with system support teams to understand any live or historical issues which may impact future system design and effectively collate and communicate Finance impacts to stakeholders.
- Report to the Head of System Accounting on matters relating to finance systems and make recommendations for the endorsement of plans relating to these systems.
- Support the Head of System Accounting with demand management, capacity planning and relevant training & guidance across the System Accounting team, the wider Finance function and the Agency as relevant.
Essential:
- Be able to quickly establish strong working relationships with expert colleagues in Finance, IT and operational areas to collaboratively understand, document and overcome issues.
- Understand Government accounting requirements and best practice for Finance systems and processes.
- Confidently and clearly explain technical finance IT functionality and accounting requirements in plain English, both in writing and verbally.
- Prioritise demands and take ownership of workplans.
- Hold a recognised Professional Accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA.
- Have recent practical experience in finance IT system design, improvement or management.
