Description & Requirements


On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Senior Cost Modeller (Inside IR35) for a Hybrid contract to run up until August 2026  based out of London or Bristol, 1 day per week and the remainder working from home.

To do this the MOD has an annual budget of almost £53 billion and a workforce comprising 197,000 people. of which 54,000 are civilians working for the UK MOD.


The work really matters; the MOD offers a range of engaging roles which have a direct impact on the quality of services they provide, in many locations across the UK. We support teams working in HR, Primary Health Care, Corporate Services, and many others.


As a Senior Cost Modeller, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Ownership of the CSM cost and benefits models including maintaining a robust Master Data Assumptions List and supporting evidence. Ensuring that assumptions are updated as our plans evolve
  • Coordinate inputs to the models from CSM’s constituent programmes, Defence Business Services (DBS) and our external delivery partners including benefit profiles, cost lines and risks.
  • Running models and conducting analysis where required
  • Undertaking a Schedule Risk Analysis of the CSM delivery plan
  • Work with subject matter experts including MAS(A), Cost Assurance & Analysis Service (CAAS) and Defence Economics to ensure the model meets required quality standards and passes Verification and Validation tests as required.
  • Work with other members of the CSM portfolio team in support of key objectives including business case approvals (including contributing to drafts) and budget setting and forecasting
  • Provide expert analysis from the model (both inputs and outputs) to support senior decision makers including the Senior Responsible Owner, Portfolio Director and senior governance boards



Essential:


  • SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. 
  • Proven expertise in cost and schedule modeling with a strong track record of delivery
  • Experience driving large-scale transformation programs or equivalent initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to robust business cases with actionable insights
  • Skilled at influencing stakeholders and applying advanced modeling techniques
  • You will be CCAB/CIMA/IACEW Qualified


Desirable:


  • Monte Carlo analysis experience
