On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Finance Accountant - (Inside IR35) for a 6 months contract working on a hybrid basis and with an expectation of 2 days per week in the London office

Routine Requirements
- Providing accounting advice, escalating issues, when necessary, through the line management chain.
- Ensuring the integrity of data collected for external reporting purposes and that checks are in place and completed to maintain accuracy and completing:
- Engaging with the Business to obtain information to complete returns (e.g. transparency reporting or losses and special payments)
- Management of grants (including grants in aid) payments, including processing, recording, and monitoring payments.
- Management of inventory / asset including updating values and volumes, capitalisation of Assets Under Construction (AUC), verification, impairment, write-offs and disposals.
- Consulting other areas of finance as appropriate, obtaining the required financial information to provide evidence and robust explanations for audit samples and ensuring the completeness of audit packs.
- Undertaking the review of control accounts, to ensure that transactions are legitimate and providing support to Defence Business Services to aid reconciliation, as required.
Continuous improvement
- Dedicating time to sharing best practice and ideas for refining standardised processes and procedures.
- Seeking feedback on the services provided and continuously strive to improve the service provision.
- Supporting the solutions to issues highlighted during internal or external audit, ensuring that you understand the guidance provided to promote embedding the lesson(s) learnt.
PLEASE NOTE:
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As a Finance Accountant - (Inside IR35) , your main responsibilities will be:
- Management of team members, motivating and coaching to enable effective delivery.

- Ensuring you and the team are getting the basics right at the first attempt.
- Supporting development and embedding the use of standardised processes to deliver a consistent output to customers.
- Working within set parameters, dealing with, and taking decisions on day-to-day issues. Referring to senior staff or SMEs on matters of policy or novel, complex issues.
Essential:
- CCAB Qualified (CIMA or equivalent) with Public Sector experience
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience and knowledge of final accounts
Desirable:
- Experience in Consolidated Accounts, Management Accounting, and IFRS
- Advice on off-payroll regulations
- Experience with VAT applications
