Description & Requirements

On behalf of DSIT, we are looking for 2 x Contract Management Lead (G7) (Inside IR35) for an initial 3-month contract based hybrid in either London, Salford, Bristol, Darlington or Edinburgh. 

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) brings together the relevant parts of the former Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the former Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Role:

To play a key role in managing complex supplier relationships, driving contract performance and helping shape contract management best practice across the organisation.

You will be responsible for leading the operational management of major Gold and Silver contracts, ensuring robust governance, effective supplier performance management, risk control and value for money throughout the contract lifecycle. In addition to managing live contracts, you will contribute to the development of the contract management hub, supporting transformation initiatives, continuous improvement activities and capability development across the team.

This role requires candidates who can quickly establish credibility, operate effectively in ambiguous environments and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders.

As a Contract Management Lead, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead the operational management of a portfolio of complex Gold and Silver contracts and strategic supplier relationships.
  • Drive contract performance, ensuring suppliers meet contractual obligations, KPIs and service level requirements.
  • Lead contract mobilisation, transition and exit activities to ensure continuity of service and minimise operational disruption.
  • Manage supplier performance issues, implementing improvement plans and contractual remedies where necessary.
  • Act as the senior supplier relationship lead, building constructive yet challenging relationships to maximise value and delivery outcomes.
  • Chair and lead governance forums, ensuring effective decision-making, issue resolution and appropriate escalation.
  • Identify, manage and escalate risks, issues, dependencies and supplier financial concerns.
  • Oversee contract variations and change control processes, ensuring compliance with governance and commercial requirements.
  • Maintain robust contract management documentation, including contract management plans, obligations registers, risk logs and assurance records.
  • Support financial oversight of contracts, including spend monitoring, invoice validation and value-for-money assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial, finance, legal, policy and delivery teams to resolve issues and support successful contract outcomes.
  • Support re-procurement activities and future commercial planning across the contract portfolio.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to junior contract management colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of contract management standards, templates, reporting frameworks and best practice across the organisation.
  • Provide updates, recommendations and strategic advice to senior stakeholders and governance boards.

Essential:

  • Significant experience in operational contract management and/or supplier relationship management within a complex, regulated or large-scale environment.
  • Experience managing high-value and complex contracts across the full contract lifecycle, including mobilisation and contract exit.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including engagement with senior internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience working under Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contracts Regulations (PCR 2015).
  • Previous line management, coaching or mentoring experience.
  • Public sector experience.
