Description & Requirements

On behalf of The Home Office, we are looking for a Commercial Legal Support - (Inside IR35) for an 11-month contract working on a hybrid basis and with an expectation of 3 days attendance in the London or Bristol office

These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. Legal Services Contract Management

Performance & Compliance: Oversee the daily management of legal services contracts

Procurement Coordination: Anticipate and initiate procurement processes for legal services; plan timelines, secure approvals, and manage end-to-end documentation.


Communications & Handling Plans

Strategic Planning: Work with the communications team to develop proactive and reactive communication strategies that address legal and commercial developments.

Lines to Take: Draft and continually refine official lines to take, adapting messages for audiences including internal teams, legal advisors, and external partners.

Stakeholder Engagement: Tailor communication approaches for diverse groups, ensuring consistent messaging on departmental objectives and legal considerations.


Lead/Support on strategy services for current Airwave Services 

Manage and lead on discussion based on strategic concepts relating to length of service and service quality and application of Charge Control

Experience and Qualifications

Contract & Supplier Management: Proven background in managing complex service contracts, including vendor performance oversight and swift resolution of complex issues.

Legal Acumen: Working knowledge of legal processes and procedures.

Governance Expertise: Familiarity with public sector governance, especially around legal procurement, approvals, and key-stage decision points.

Financial & Analytical Skills: Proficiency in creating and managing Excel spreadsheets, conducting budget forecasting, and interpreting financial data.

Communications Planning: Demonstrated ability to craft robust communications strategies (both proactive and reactive), collaborating with communications teams to ensure clarity of messaging.

Commercial Insight: Capacity to provide sound commercial advice when required, aligned with public sector policies and regulatory constraints.

Written Communication Proficiency: Skilled at producing accurate, well-structured ministerial submissions, governance documents, and other formal briefs.


Please Note:

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance


Essential

  • Public Sector experience
  • Commercial Legal experience 
  • Experience of managing contractual legal issues
  • Experience of legal documentation – ideally Commercial Law
  • Experience of and understanding of legal text
  • Analytical mindset and understanding of numbers
  • Microsoft Office / Share Point / Excel experience


Desirable:

  • Legal Degree in Commercial / Contract Law
