Description & Requirements

On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for a TECHNICAL BUSINESS ANALYST for an initial 6 month contract based in London.

Job Purpose

Analyse and structure business problems across the AI Incubator Accelarator POD’s by defining clear requirements, mapping processes and aligning technical and business stakeholders to support the effective delivery of AI and automation solutions.


As a Technical BA, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Identify, analyse and document detailed business and technical requirements for AI, automation and data-driven solutions to support structured delivery.
  • Translate complex and ambiguous business challenges into clearly defined problem statements, analytical frameworks and prioritised requirements.
  • Apply systems thinking to map and evaluate end-to-end processes, data flows and role interactions to identify constraints and automation opportunities.
  • Produce process maps, data flow diagrams, requirements documentation and decision logs to support transparent and traceable solution development.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, AI Engineers, Governance Leads and the Solutions Architect to align requirements with technical feasibility and architectural standards.
  • Support feasibility and impact assessments by analysing data availability, operational constraints, risks and expected benefits of proposed AI use cases.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement activities to clarify expectations, resolve ambiguities and align delivery priorities across pods and adopting business teams.
  • Decompose complex initiatives into manageable scopes and structured delivery increments to support prioritisation and sequencing.
  • Contribute to cross-POD alignment by identifying overlaps, dependencies and duplication risks in proposed AI and automation initiatives.


Essential: 

  • Experience operating as a Business Analyst, Technical Analyst or similar role within technology or transformation programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering, structuring and documenting requirements in complex or ambiguous environments.
  • Experience working directly with technical delivery teams and interpreting technical concepts, data structures or system constraints into structured business requirements.
  • Strong analytical capability with experience decomposing complex problems and assessing feasibility or impact of proposed solutions.
  • Experience producing process maps, workflow analyses or comparable structured documentation artefacts.


Desirable:

  • Exposure to AI, automation or data-driven transformation initiatives.
  • Experience operating within agile or rapid delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with systems thinking principles or comparable holistic analysis approaches.
  • Experience working across multi-supplier or cross-organisation delivery environments.
