Description & Requirements


On behalf of The Ministry of Justice, we are looking for a Functional Design Coordinator (Inside IR35) for a contract which is 12 months possible extension and is a hybrid role so does require up to 3 days a week in the London office


The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.


The Synergy Programme itself is a large-scale transformation programme consisting of four Government departments, MOJ (Ministry of Justice), DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and HO (Home Office). They will come together to replace their current back-office systems and introduce new ways of working for 220,000 civil servants combined from 2026 onwards. High quality, accurate data is fundamental to enabling this transition and ensuring that future processes, reporting, and business operations function effectively on the new Oracle Fusion platform.


SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.


As a Functional Design Coordinator, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Provide regular coordination and support to HR, Finance and Commercial Functional Leads and SMEs, working closely with the Design Lead to ensure design activity is aligned, sequenced and delivery ready
  • Own and maintain the Design workstream MS Project plan, ensuring it feeds accurately into the Integrated Programme Plan.
  • Coordinate day to day demands on functional design support resources, including tracking availability and forecasting upcoming demand.
  • Work closely with the PMO team to align MoJ and Core Synergy workshop schedules, deliverables and resource commitments.
  • Lead on practical delivery support, including arranging design workshops, briefings and Go/No Go decision points with Core and MoJ teams.
  • Own and maintain the Design workstream RAID log, ensuring risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies are clearly articulated, kept up to date and escalated as required.
  • Coordinate reporting for the Design workstream into fortnightly Delivery Forum meetings and, where required, the monthly Programme Delivery Board, in conjunction with the Design Lead.


Essential Skills


  • Experience supporting delivery within a complex programme or portfolio environment.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, including hands on use of MS Project or equivalent.
  • Experience in the managing of sensitive data within a busy role
  • Confidence working with diverse stakeholders, including functional SMEs, PMO teams and senior leaders.
  • Experience of RAID management and structured reporting to governance forums.
  • Experience of Oracle as a supporting tool
  • Strong self starter with a proactive appraoch all duties
