Description & Requirements


On behalf of HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), we are looking for an Assistant Project Manager (Inside IR35) for a contract which runs to the 13th September 2026, this role is remote but may include occasional travel to an office location


HM Courts & Tribunals Service is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England & Wales. Their roles support service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice.


As a Assistant Project Manager, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Define and document project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders, including day-to-day management and leadership of the project and the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations for the relevant governance boards as required.
  • Execute project lifecycle in accordance with in-house processes and government standards.
  • Lead on the planning and initiation of pilots across the organisation, ensuring the relevant authority has been received to Go Live in the Courts and / or region
  • Lead on the evaluation of the pilots across the organisation
  • Supporting the data analysis team on the cost benefit analysis of the workstream and pilots
  • Supporting the BAs and data analysis team on benefit forecasts
  • Creating and managing core project documentation such as RAID, Action Logs, POAPs, Stakeholder maps
  • Support stakeholder engagement across HMCTS and external partners, providing clear communication and engaging where appropriate


Essential Skills


  • A track record of managing projects within an operational environment
  • A successful track record of managing projects and/or workstreams within a large, complex programme.
  • Previous experience working in the public sector
  • Experience in the writing of reports which may then be presented to senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to drive through significant change whilst maintaining strong external and internal relationships.
  • Proven ability to perform consistently to tight timescales with a high degree of visibility.
  • Experience of written communication to a range of audiences at all levels
  • A strong communicator, able to communicate messages clearly to a range of audiences at all levels.


Desirable Skills


  • Experience within the MOJ would be highly beneficial
