Description & Requirements

On behalf of The Home Office we are looking for a Service Architect (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. Hybrid working with 3 days per week in London.

The first duty of Government is to protect the public. Since 1782, the Home Office has led work to keep the country safe from those who seek to do it harm; in doing so, we make a vital contribution to HM Government’s plan for a stronger, fairer, outward-looking and united Britain.

The Home Office covers three systems Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. These are difficult areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in – this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.

SMCP is a pan-government, cross departmental, programme based within the Home Office. The programme has representation from the emergency services at both operational and departmental levels and has close working involvement from the suppliers of ESN technology. This is an exciting programme, delivering cutting edge technology which will directly impact people’s lives.

The Service Architecture, Transition and Tooling team consists of Service Architects, Project Managers and Business Analysts. The team sits inside the Live Services directorate alongside Service Operations, Product Management and the Airwave team.

In this role you will produce comprehensive service designs, incorporating business requirements, wider standards, service capabilities and external suppliers. You will lead on projects of work, acting as a Subject Matter Expert and ensuring the design meets user and wider programme needs.

As a Service Architect your main responsibilities will be:

  • Managing and delivering complex service solutions within time, cost and quality targets, ensuring solutions are robust, resilient, and appropriately implemented, tested and documented.
  • Defining standards, owning and contributing to the service roadmap and strategy.
  • Anticipating and advising on future technology changes that present opportunities for the product or service.

Essential:

  • An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
  • Strong process, technical and team leadership skills, with a passion for delivering leading edge designs and inspiring a culture of technical excellence and innovative solution design.
  • Experience of navigating the complex landscapes of technologies, 3rd party suppliers (driving the procurement process), internal and cross-government teams.
  • Experience of managing and delivering complex service solutions within time, cost and quality targets, ensuring solutions are robust, resilient, and appropriately implemented, tested and documented.
  • Experience of anticipating and advising on future technology changes that present opportunities for the product or service.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a language which meets the needs of different users and stakeholders through selecting the appropriate channels and formats.
  • ITIL Qualification.
  • Project management foundation (In any recognised PM area. Prince2, Agile, Lean).

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
