Description & Requirements

On behalf of The Home Office we are looking for 2x Digital Delivery Managers (Inside IR35) for a 3 month and 5 month contract. Remote working with occasional travel to London.

The first duty of Government is to protect the public. Since 1782, the Home Office has led work to keep the country safe from those who seek to do it harm; in doing so, we make a vital contribution to HM Government’s plan for a stronger, fairer, outward-looking and united Britain.

The Home Office covers three systems Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. These are difficult areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in – this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.

As a Digital Delivery Manager for a single product team operating on a strategic platform, you will lead the end‑to‑end delivery of technical change, cloud‑native capabilities, and platform enhancements. Your focus will be on enabling your team to effectively build, run, and improve services on AWS, applying DevOps and automation practices to drive speed, reliability, and operational excellence.

You will work closely with engineers, architects, product managers and platform specialists to ensure the team is delivering secure, scalable, and high‑quality cloud solutions. You will act as the glue within the team—aligning delivery priorities, clearing impediments, coordinating technical decisions, and making sure the platform remains stable, cost‑efficient, and continually improving.

As a Digital Delivery Manager your main responsibilities will be:

  • Overseeing delivery of platform capabilities and services built on AWS, ensuring secure, scalable, and well‑architected solutions.
  • Coordinating technical planning and roadmap delivery within the product team.
  • Ensuring cloud infrastructure, deployments, and environments are appropriately managed and maintained.
  • Championing DevOps practices including CI/CD, observability, automation, infrastructure‑as‑code and shift‑left testing.
  • Supporting the team to mature the build‑run‑improve cycle, including release automation, incident response, monitoring and alerting.
  • Maintaining delivery plans, sprint goals and release schedules for a long‑lived product team.
  • Managing risks, issues, blockers and dependencies related to the platform.
  • Acting as the main delivery contact point for team stakeholders including product leads, architects, business owners and other platform consumers.
  • Translating technical information into clear delivery decisions and communicating progress effectively.

Essential:

  • An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
  • Hands‑on delivery experience in a cloud environment, ideally AWS, including working with teams building or running cloud‑native services.
  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Experience working within a single multi‑disciplinary agile team delivering continuous increments of value.
  • Strong communication skills, able to translate between technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Strong understanding of AWS fundamentals (IAM, VPC, EC2, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation/Terraform).
  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer etc.).
  • Experience with Kubernetes/EKS, containerisation (Docker), or serverless patterns.
  • Understanding of SRE concepts (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets) and operational excellence.
  • Participation in platform engineering or DevOps communities of practice.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
