On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a Senior Project Manager (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. This is a hybrid working role (one day per week office based - Exeter).
Job Purpose:
A vacancy for a Senior Project Manager has become available within a large scale and highly complex Data Delivery programme at the Met Office.
The Met Office is recognised as an innovative, global weather and climate data centre. Our environmental (weather and climate) data is key output which we want to gain maximum benefit from, by making it easier to access and easier to use.
The Data Delivery Programme will enable government, industry and UK citizens to access accurate, consistent and usable environmental data - what they want, where they want it and how they want it - to make better decisions.
The programme will achieve this through streamlining the process by which we make data available, ensuring that we can accelerate the pace at which we can draw through improvements in our underlying science into our products and to our customers.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As a Senior Project Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), the Project Manager will lead the project and the project team on a day-to-day basis using GDS Service Manual (Agile) principles and Met Office process. Aligning and reporting to the Programme, the Project Manager is responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives and priorities are clearly defined, understood and achieved within the agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. The Project Manager has a key role in project governance and working with stakeholders, to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised.
- Data Endpoints project (New Data Delivery Capability). Our customer expectations and technology have evolved. The Data Endpoints project is collaborating with leading data platforms, such as Snowflake and ESRI to deliver our data into platforms which customers are already using for other data, so they can easily integrate and view Met Office data with other data sources, in order to drive effective decision-making.
- The successful Project Manager will deliver new data delivery capability, working alongside a pool of experienced technology leads as well as a broad range of other specialists (e.g. Product Managers, Scientific Software Engineers, Technical Architects, Analysts, etc.) as part of a large multi-disciplined team comprising both Met Office and external supplier partners.
You'll have:
- Demonstrable track record in delivering projects successfully, ideally holds PMQ, Prince(2) and / or Prince (Agile) qualifications.
- Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of successful liaison with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working within a technology and/or a science domain, preferably in a field related to large-scale data delivery.
- Experience of working within a wider governance framework such as a Large Programme or delivery of projects using the GDS Service Manual.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
