Description & Requirements

On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a React Full Stack Developer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based Hybrid with occasional travel to Exeter (around twice per month).


About the Role

Join the Met Office as a React Full Stack Developer and help deliver critical upgrades to our digital platforms. You’ll work on modern web applications, ensuring robustness, scalability, and security in a fast paced Agile environment.


As a React Full Stack Developer your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Operate and support the production services you build.
  • Build and maintain large-scale React applications following best practices.
  • Write clean, secure, test-driven code in TypeScript and JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Deploy, manage and monitor AWS services (Lambda, EC2, S3, CloudWatch).
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives).
  • Lead development work across multiple tasks and guide team members.
  • Explain architecture and design decisions confidently to colleagues.
  • Take responsibility for code and services in production, including incident management.
  • Improve system robustness, resilience and stability through fault handling, performance tuning, and automated testing.


Essential:

  • React, TypeScript, JavaScript.
  • Strong experience building modern web applications using React and maintaining large-scale React codebases.
  • Proficient in TypeScript for clear, typed, maintainable code.
  • Hands on AWS experience, using tools such as Lambda, EC2, S3, CloudWatch or similar.
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript, including ES6+ features, asynchronous programming and writing testable, maintainable code.
  • Agile delivery experience.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture and production support.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
