Description & Requirements

On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a DevOps Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based Remotely with occasional travel to Exeter.


Join the Met Office as a DevOps Engineer and help deliver secure, scalable identity services that millions rely on. This is a critical role within our Customer Identity & Authorisation (IAMS) team, ensuring reliability, resilience, and security across our identity platforms.

You’ll lead a small team, act as a technical authority on Azure AD B2C, and champion best practices in automation and reliability engineering while collaborating with developers and architects to shape the future of identity services.


As a DevOps Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support a small team of DevOps engineers, including providing coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer.
  • Act as a technical authority in customer authorisation tools, particularly Azure AD B2C, with the ability to engage in deep technical discussions and challenge architectural decisions where needed.
  • Collaborate closely with two dedicated developers maintaining a complex B2C implementation, ensuring continuity and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to the ongoing Discovery phase, evaluating alternative tooling options in anticipation of B2C’s evolving lifecycle.
  • Provide hands-on support and guidance to DevOps engineers working on operational support and developer enablement.
  • Develop and maintain automation and tooling using languages such as Java and Python.


Essential:

  • Experience working within AWS and Azure Cloud.
  • Strong Python experience (Java desirable) and GitHub.
  • Deep knowledge of Identity & Access Management, especially Azure AD B2C.
  • Hands on experience with CI/CD, automation, monitoring and reliability engineering.
  • Inclusive leadership skills and experience managing diverse teams.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands on approach to problem solving.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
