On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a Frontend Developer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based Remotely with occasional travel to Exeter.
We are seeking a Frontend Developer with experience interacting with internally developed APIs and platforms in a mixed cloud (Azure + AWS) environment for a Government agency. The ideal candidate will work across the full software development lifecycle, from conception to deployment, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives. This role requires proficiency in both frontend technologies and UX/UI design principles, strong problem-solving skills, and familiarity with Agile methodologies.
As a Frontend Developer your main responsibilities will be to:
- Develop responsive, accessible, and high-quality user interfaces using Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
- Collaborate with design and product teams to create intuitive user experiences.
- Develop user experiences backed by internal APIs and search indexes.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality software.
- Maintain and update existing applications, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements.
- Write technical documentation and assist in defining project requirements.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and automated testing to streamline deployment processes.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in frontend development.
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Frontend Developer or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of frontend technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React, Next.js.
- Familiarity with databases and Search Indexes: Elasticsearch and SQL-like databases.
- Knowledge of version control systems (Git).
- Understanding of cloud platforms and deployment strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Desirable:
- Candidates must be willing and eligible to undergo SC Clearance. Active SC Clearance is advantageous but not essential.
- Experience with PyGeoAPI.
- Experience with Jira / Confluence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
