About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year Corporate Plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. This post plays a central role in that journey.
About the role
The Support Officer is a key member of a small, friendly and high performing team. You will provide efficient and well organised administrative support that helps us deliver transparent, compliant and effective governance, risk and assurance activities across the Commission.
On a typical day you might be:
- Coordinating internal audit activity by scheduling meetings, preparing documentation, maintaining shared workspaces and tracking the completion of audit recommendations to ensure audits run smoothly.
- Maintaining accurate logs, trackers and datasets that enable consistent monitoring of governance, risk and assurance work across the organisation.
- Preparing routine documents such as standard reports, templates, briefing packs and meeting notes using established formats.
- Monitoring shared inboxes, responding to straightforward queries and escalating more complex questions appropriately.
- Maintaining well-structured SharePoint folders and intranet content that support good information management and audit readiness.
- Providing flexible support across the team and covering colleagues’ duties when needed to maintain a reliable and consistent service.
Your work will support colleagues at all levels, including senior leaders and Commissioners, and you will also liaise with internal audit providers to support constructive, timely and well organised audit activities.
About the team
You will join the Governance, Risk and Assurance team within Corporate Services. The team is responsible for delivering high quality internal audit coordination, governance reporting, risk management support and assurance activities that help the Commission operate transparently and effectively.
We are a collaborative and supportive team with a strong ethos around accuracy, consistency and service quality. We take pride in maintaining clear processes, well organised information and trusted working relationships across the Commission. Colleagues value working with us because we are reliable, adaptable and solutions focused, and because our work makes a meaningful contribution to strong public accountability.
Who we’re looking for
This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys working in a structured, organised environment and takes pride in delivering accurate and reliable administrative support. You do not need prior governance experience, but you will need to bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
You will be successful in this role if you can demonstrate:
- Experience providing high quality administrative support in a corporate or similar professional environment, ideally involving work with formal documentation or regulated processes.
- Experience coordinating meetings, schedules or information across multiple stakeholders or teams.
- Experience maintaining logs, trackers or datasets with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience producing clear written materials such as meeting notes, templates, reports or briefing packs.
- Confident IT skills, including regular use of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems.
- Experience organising digital filing systems, updating shared workspaces or supporting good record management practices.
- Experience handling routine queries from shared inboxes or customer service channels, with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
This role would also suit someone who enjoys improving processes, maintaining well organised systems and working with colleagues across multiple teams.
Why work for us?
This is an excellent opportunity to build your experience in governance, risk and assurance within a respected public body. You will gain exposure to senior stakeholders, internal audit governance processes, corporate reporting and information management. The role offers scope to develop your professional skills, broaden your knowledge of governance practice and contribute to meaningful public service.
You will be supported with ongoing learning and development, including access to professional training pathways. Internal progression is encouraged and many colleagues in Corporate Services have developed their careers across the Commission.
We offer a strong total reward package, including:
- Flexible working and hybrid model (40% office minimum)
- 28 rising to 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
- Civil Service pension scheme (28.97% employer contribution)
- Study support for professional qualifications
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities
- Ride2Work, eye care vouchers and more
