About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year Corporate Plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. This post plays a central role in that journey.
About the role
We are looking for a Regulatory Case Worker to support the effective triage, assessment and progression of information relating to potential breaches of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act (PPERA). This is a key role within our regulatory framework, ensuring cases are assessed promptly, consistently and evidenced to a high standard.
In this role, you will:
- Triage and analyse information relating to matters of regulatory concern
- Evaluate evidence and apply PPERA legislation to identify potential breaches
- Manage a varied caseload with strong recordkeeping and timely progression
- Prepare clear and concise written assessments, internal reports and referrals
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including political entities, complainants and legal colleagues
- Present cases and respond to detailed questions from the Regulatory Action Panel
- Contribute to proactive, project based regulatory work
This post offers exposure to complex regulatory issues, the opportunity to deepen your understanding of political finance, and the chance to directly influence fair and evidence based regulatory decisions.
About the team
You will join the Regulatory Action Panel (RAP) team, a collaborative and fast‑paced part of the Regulation directorate. The team works closely with monitoring, enforcement, registrations and compliance colleagues to ensure high‑quality, consistent and transparent decision‑making. The culture is supportive, analytical and mission driven, perfect for someone who enjoys meaningful work with tangible public impact
Who we’re looking for
This role would suit someone with experience in regulatory casework, complaints handling, investigations or paralegal work, particularly those comfortable interpreting legislation or regulatory frameworks. You’ll thrive if you enjoy distilling complex information, working at pace and applying sound judgement.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Experience assessing information for compliance, breaches or statutory irregularities
- Strong analytical skills and ability to make risk-based recommendations
- Excellent written communication and the ability to summarise complex issues clearly
- Confident stakeholder communication
- Highly organised case management and accurate recordkeeping
A legal qualification is welcome but not essential. We are not seeking qualified lawyers.
Why work for us?
You’ll gain exposure to political finance regulation, decision-making processes and cross directorate working, with strong opportunities for development and career progression within regulatory and analytical roles.
We offer a strong total reward package, including:
- Flexible working and hybrid model (40% office minimum)
- 28 rising to 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
- Civil Service pension scheme (28.97% employer contribution)
- Study support for professional qualifications
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities
- Ride2Work, eye care vouchers and more

Supporting disabled applicants
The Electoral Commission is proud to be a Level 2 Disability Confident Employer. As part of this commitment, we aim to prioritise interviews for disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria listed in the job description.
There may, however, be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria. For example, during periods of exceptionally high application volumes or seasonal recruitment activity, the Commission may need to limit the overall number of interviews offered to both disabled and non-disabled applicants.
If you have a disability and would like to be considered under this commitment, please indicate this when you apply. We also welcome requests for reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process or within the workplace.
