Description & Requirements

On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a Delivery Manager (Inside IR35) for a 12 Month hybrid contract based 1 day per week in Exeter.


An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)

We have two teams that are seeking an experienced Delivery Manager delivering a range of high‑impact projects and leading multidisciplinary teams using modern technology stacks, and helping to shape the future direction of our services as they evolve.


1) The Aviation and Transport Community. You will join a department with several teams responsible for developing and enhancing software services that support our role as a World Area Forecast Service (WAFC). The role involves working with both regulated and non‑regulated users.

2) Citizen, Media and OpMet Technology department. You will join a department responsible for enabling the realisation of scientific data outputs into reliable, web‑scale data feeds working with teams to design, manage, and operate platforms that underpin public‑facing digital services, including the Met Office App and website.


Your key duties:

  • Help coach, facilitate and mentor both team members and others to apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques.
  • Help build and maintain software delivery teams, ensuring they are motivated, collaborating and working well.
  • Identify obstacles and help the team to overcome them.
  • Focus the team on what is most important to the delivery of products and services.
  • Encourage and facilitate continuous improvement of the delivery team.


Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  • Knowledge & experience of planning, optimising and implementing delivery workflows -including understanding agile practices, whilst being able to manage conflicting priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Able to identify and address risks, issues & dependencies across services and co-ordinate delivery with these in mind, whilst maintaining an attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to deliver relevant information to a range of audiences at different levels across an organisation, on both a 1:1 level and within a group setting, being prepared to make decisions and knowing when to escalate issues. (We’re experts by nature)
  • Experience of bringing together diverse individuals and teams, forging close working relationships and developing an inclusive team environment in order to deliver successful outcomes.
