Description & Requirements

On behalf of the Department for Education, we are looking for a Senior Performance Analyst (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based Remote with occasional travel to the Coventry Office.

The Department for Education is looking for a Senior Performance Analyst to lead and evolve the analytics capability for a key digital service that supports overseas trained teachers applying for QTS. This is a high impact role where your insights will shape policy, improve user experiences and support delivery teams to become more data driven.

The role

You’ll take ownership of performance measurement across the AQTS service, ensuring data is accurate, meaningful and actionable. This isn’t a dashboard maintenance role. You’ll redesign and improve the current SQL and BigQuery based dashboards, refresh service KPIs and help the team understand not just what the data shows but what it means and what should happen next.

You’ll work closely with policy, operations, service designers and developers to link insights across the full user journey and support the team’s shift toward data driven decision making.

As a Senior Performance Analyst, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Redesign and improve performance dashboards using SQL, BigQuery and Looker Studio to ensure accurate high quality reporting.
  • Lead the development and refresh of performance frameworks and KPIs in line with GDS standards and upcoming assessments.
  • Ensure data accuracy and produce actionable insights that inform policy, operations and wider governance reporting.
  • Plan and proactively engage with stakeholders, challenging senior stakeholders where needed and mitigating constraints effectively.
  • Integrate digital analytics with qualitative data such as user surveys and user research and work with developers to understand user behaviour and service usage patterns.
  • Link service data with policy and operational datasets to show wider impact and support decision making across teams.
  • Develop tools and techniques that help others use and interpret data and support the team to become more data driven.
  • Peer review analytical outputs to ensure quality and respond flexibly to urgent reporting needs from policy or senior stakeholders.

Essential:

  • Strong experience as a Performance Analyst in digital services or the UK Public Sector.
  • Excellent SQL skills and experience with BigQuery and Looker Studio.
  • Ability to redesign dashboards, define data models and ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Experience leading the development of performance frameworks and service KPIs.
  • Ability to translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working across policy, operations and delivery teams.
  • Understanding of government delivery lifecycles and GDS assessments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to advocate for data-driven decision-making.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
