Description & Requirements

On behalf of AWE, we are looking for a Material Production Planner (Outside IR35) for an 18 Month hybrid contract based in Burghfield.

What if you could work on something that you can’t test… but cannot afford to fail? Something that could have spent years on a submarine, is launched into outer space (where the temperature is below -250c), comes hurtling through the atmosphere, being heated up and shaken and then must work? Some challenge. That’s exactly what the team of over 6,500 people at AWE do every day delivering important work, in support of the most important mission – keeping the nation safe.

AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defense against the most serious threats faced by the UK. Working to support the defence of our country, AWE has a clear mission to keep everyone, the environment, their products and information, sites, and everything around them, safe and secure.

As a Material Production Planner, your main responsibilities will be:

  • To foster efficient collaboration between disparate groups of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the Tech Centre (TC) such as: Material Planners, Manufacturing, Commercial & Financial Business Partners to ensure they are aligned and that assumptions around material spend are reliable, with accurate information on anticipated costs, need-by dates and order status.
  • To act as a focal point/Trouble shooter within the TC to help teams overcome Procurement/Supply Chain obstacles, support materiel demand and management activities.
  • To assist in expediting critical Purchase Orders and collaborate with Commercial teams and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of essential materials and services.
  • Resolving and/or escalating any material related issues including root cause analysis.
  • To attend task reviews and de-conflict any emerging material requirements.
  • Tracking and summarizing supplier performance to support Commercial colleagues and the TC Group Leader in tracking supplier performance, summarizing its impacts upon the TC delivery programme & feeding into KPI Scoring.
  • Promote and sponsor operational excellence and drive all actions aimed at continuous process improvement.

Criteria:

  • A track record in instigating and driving collaborative working within an organization.
  • Background in any of: Supply Chain; Logistics; or Material Planning is highly desirable.
  • Background in a Manufacturing or Production environment is preferred but not essential.
  • May commence role with SC security clearance – however, Developed Vetting (DV) Clearance is an essential requirement for this role; as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.

AWE’s ambition is to create workplaces that recognize and celebrate differences, encourage diverse contributions and where people feel able to be themselves at work. They strive to create a genuine culture of openness and inclusion and encourage diverse applicants.
