Description & Requirements

On behalf of NS&I (National Savings & Investments), we are looking for a Financial Accountant (Product) (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based on a hybrid basis (minimum one day per week from local hub)

As a Financial Accountant (Product) your main responsibilities will be:

• Support the preparation and delivery of statutory Product Accounts in compliance with IFRS, FReM, and Parliamentary reporting requirements.
 • Assist in planning, coordinating, and delivering year-end and interim accounts, working closely with auditors and outsourced accounting providers.
 • Review, analyse, and assure monthly Product Accounts and financial reporting, identifying issues and ensuring accuracy and completeness.
 • Prepare management accounts, financial reports, cash forecasts, and funding analyses to support decision-making and financial control.
 • Provide financial assurance and oversight of outsourced accounting operations, including reviewing reconciliations and customer interest calculations.
 • Maintain and improve financial controls, ensuring compliance, effective governance, and mitigation of financial risks.
 • Support treasury management activities, including monitoring funding flows, bank accounts, and National Loans Fund transactions.
 • Act as a key liaison between finance, outsourced providers, auditors, HM Treasury, and internal stakeholders on product accounting matters.
 • Provide accounting advice on projects, policy changes, and new products, assessing financial and reporting impacts.
 • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support the development of accounting guidance, processes, and controls.

 

Essential:
 • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS, CAI or CIPFA) with relevant post-qualification experience.
 • Experience supporting preparation of statutory accounts and working with internal and external auditors.
 • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS and financial reporting standards.
 • Experience analysing complex financial information and presenting findings to senior stakeholders and non-finance colleagues.
 • Experience working within financial control frameworks, including risk identification, controls, and process improvements.
 • Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and report-writing abilities.

 Desirable:

 • Experience working within financial services or a regulated environment.
 • Experience working in high-volume transactional finance environments.
 • Experience reviewing or developing financial policies, procedures, or accounting guidance.
 • Experience working with outsourced accounting providers or shared service environments.
 • Experience in treasury operations, cash management, or bank reconciliations.
 • Experience supporting organisational change, transformation programmes, or finance projects.
