On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Project Manager (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract possible extension which is a hybrid role so requires up to 2 days a week in the Bristol Office

This is an exciting opportunity to join the MOD’s Defence Office for Small Business Growth in support of the Department’s strategic agenda around small businesses in a direct response to Prime Ministerial direction given earlier in the year. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that new IT services that support the Defence Office for Small Business Growth are prepared for launch and operation as part of Initial Operating Capability (IOC). The Defence Office is responsible for enabling the effective participation and growth of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) within the UK defence supply chain, and ultimately, help to bolster UK economic growth.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As a Project Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Engage with the suppliers developing the digital presence to ensure shared understanding and alignment to project milestones, this will need to be done in partnership with the Digital Content Manager to ensure that the comms plan aligns and is kept on track.
- Manage the progress against this map, managing stakeholders to get results and escalating as required.
- To manage progress effectively the PM must work alongside all fixed term contractors to understand where areas are falling behind and adjusting support as required to close that gap. For clarity, the fixed term contractors are: Service Transition Manager, Service Readiness Analyst, Data Analyst, Internal Communication Specialist, Digital Content Manager, Digital Product Manager, and Business Change Manager
- Dependency management – Map programme dependencies and identify owners, build dependency management into the programme’s governance cycle
- Form effective partnerships and relationships with people both internally and externally, from a range of diverse backgrounds, sharing information, resources and support.
- Take responsibility for delivering timely and quality results with focus and drive.
Essential Skills
- Extensive experience as a project manager in the end-to-end delivery of projects Including digital ideally within central government
- Communications and stakeholder management – Develop and maintain communications with project managers and other stakeholders, building effective and collaborative relationships.
- Risks, issues and governance – Manage risks, issues and governance including those that are strategic and politically sensitive, ensuring regular reporting and escalation as appropriate.
- Programme performance and controls – Plan and design the programme and proactively monitor and report on its overall progress through the governance framework.
- Dependency management – Map programme dependencies and identify owners, build dependency management into the programme’s governance cycle
- Strong self starter with a proactive approach across all duties
Desirable Skills
- MOD project management experience will be highly beneficial for this role
