On behalf of HSE, we are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant (Insid IR35/PAYE) for a 5 Month contract based In Bootle 2-3 days a week

Reporting to HSE’s Assistant Director of Finance this role is to assist
with the production of our Annual Report & Accounts as well as a Finance
improvement initiative.
This will be an important part of the preparations for our annual audit (by National Audit Office), also helping to ensure that our processes are as efficient as possible and that some of our key financial models are straightforward to maintain
As a Senior Financial Accountant, your main responsibilities will be:
- Project manage the production of the Annual Report and Accounts. This will involve liaison with all contributors, including those responsible for each section (i.e. Performance; Accountability; Remuneration; Governance Report; and Financial Statements
- Support the preparation of the annual audit, by quality assuring the most significant transactions and balances.
- Review technical accounting areas which we have identified as requiring improvement.
- Working with colleagues outside of the central Finance team, reviewing models and data sources and putting in place sustainable improvements:
- Expected Credit loss model (liaising with the Cost Recovery team on the information available to improve reporting for March 2026
- IFRS 17 Insurance contracts – reviewing the evidence returned from across the business, to ensure we have the appropriate accounting in place from 1 April 2025 as well as reviewing disclosures. IFRS 15 revenue recognition – support the quality assurance review as part of the 2024/25 audit (revenue iro Science Division, CRD and BSR)
- Quality assurance of other models which underpin material figures in the accounts, including Estates and financial commitments.
Essential:
- Financial Reporting Experience
- Financial Modelling experience with the ability to improve and simplify
- IFRS and technical accounting experience
- Full chartered level professional qualification awarded by a UK-recognised accountancy body: CIMA, ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS and Chartered Accountants Ireland.
