Description & Requirements

On behalf of The Government Property Agency, we are looking for a HR Policy Advisor for a 3 month contract.

Hybrid - adhoc travel to office when required.

Office locations - Swindon, Coventry, Newport, Manchester, Leeds, and Norwich.


The Government Property Agency is an Executive Agency of the cabinet office. It is changing the way the Civil Service works and is at the forefront of Government's transformation agenda; reshaping the relationship civil servants have with their place of work. The Agency is central to the delivery of key Government policies including moving 22,000 Civil Service roles out of London by 2030 and tackling climate change by contributing to the Net Zero agenda. To do this we are delivering a major change programme across the UK and consolidating our portfolio in order to save £1.4 Bn over 10 years.


This is an ambitious and exciting task, for which we need innovative people, with strong commercial acumen, who are passionate about visualising and implementing customer needs.


As a HR Policy Advisor, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Undertaking a review of HR policies used within GPA to identify priority areas for improvements.
  • Undertaking light touch review all CO and GPA HR policies to identify whether they are fit for purpose (yes, could be improved, not at all)
  • Identifying any policy gaps based on Government People Group model policies
  • Creating a prioritisation and schedule for view based on the review, plus alignment with other key HR initiatives such as embedding the values work and alignment with the implementation of the matrix system.
  • Updating the highest priority policies, working with key stakeholders within the GPA.


Essential:

  • Experience of HR policy development.
  • Able to interpret information from various sources i.e. policies, legislation, case law and provide sound HR advice or propose policy recommendations.
  • Experience of communicating and working effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to a high standard.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks/issues and develop informed options.
  • Previous knowledge or experience of HR in the civil service.


Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of Google workspace with intermediate keyboard skills.
