Description & Requirements

On behalf of AWE, we are looking for a Buyer Inside IR35 for an 18 month contract based Hybrid working (2/3 days per week on site in Aldermaston, Reading and remaining WFH)

AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defence against the most serious threats faced by the UK. Please note that SC clearance is a minimum requirement for this role, candidate must be willing and eligible to complete clearance checks.


Job Purpose:

The end to end management of purchase orders, including expediting and resolving invoice queries to meet business needs.


The main duties and responsibilities of the Buyer would be:

  • Utilising expert knowledge to complete all buying activities, including complex orders, ensuring that demands are understood and met, and issues are dealt with promptly.
  • Responsible for the Service Centre reporting within the category structure assigned.
  • Management of allocated supplier relationships (where appropriate)
  • Continuously maintain Fusion housekeeping to ensure the accuracy of purchase order data
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships and awareness with internal Supply Chain
  • Management and key internal stakeholders to ensure SCM processes are being adhered to and prompt placement of orders
  • Maintaining and promoting high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player
  • Utilising expert knowledge to review requisitions, place purchase orders in line with the correct route to market and expedite orders to meet business needs
  • Building robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate order placement and on time delivery in line with the business needs
  • Delivering objectives to agreed timescales
  • Ensuring Supply Chain processes, tools and systems are adhered to, leading by example and ensuring the correct route to market place is selected
  • Promoting and ensuring the use of a fully evaluated and approved supply base that aligns with existing and known future demand
  • Working with key stakeholders to ensure the speedy resolution of queries, expediting of deliveries and closing overdue commitments
  • Driving change and championing best practice to promote the Service Centre function and where appropriate, participating in the review of Supply Chain or other processes and procedures


Essential:

  • SC (Security Clearance)
  • Experience of sourcing to contract
  • Experience of Public Procurement Regulations: The Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (PCR 2015) and The Procurement Act 2023 (PA 2023)
  • Knowledge of end-to-end public procurement
  • Experience of end-to-end tendering
  • Tender evaluation experience
  • Experience of System Implementations (finance)
  • Previous experience in a procurement/purchasing environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of JAGGAER (preferably) or Ariba (as equivalent) 
  • More admin involved in the system than the Assistant Buyer role. 
  • Working on more complex contracts, with higher values.
  • Need to be able to field queries and liaise with other departments
  • Strong stakeholder management skills


Desirable:

  • Background in nuclear or Defence
