About the Role:


Great British Energy is looking for a Responsible Sourcing Lead to join our GBE Supply Chain Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.


The Responsible Sourcing Lead will develop GBE’s approach to ethical supply chains. They will design and implement responsible sourcing strategies, lead risk assessment, research and due diligence activities, and work closely with sustainability, legal, delivery, investment and impact teams to ensure supply chains meet high standards on human rights and labour rights.


Key Responsibilities:


Strategy Development and Project Management

  • Support with development and implementation of the organisation’s Ethical Supply Chain Strategy and supply chain risk management approach, in line with international standards (UN Guiding Principles, OECD Due Diligence Guidance, ILO Conventions).
  • Act as project manager for strategy delivery, establishing programme milestones, tracking progress and ensuring work is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Develop and embed ethical supply chain processes, tools and oversight mechanisms across GBE functions, in collaboration with sustainability colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across GBE to ensure alignment, share insight and drive effective cross-functional delivery of the Ethical Supply Chains work programme.
  • Identify and prioritise salient supply chain risks across portfolios, regions and technologies.


Supply Chain Risk Assessment and Due Diligence

  • Lead risk-based due diligence assessments and supply-chain-mapping across business activity to generate insights that feed into investment documentation and the development of action plans.
  • Implement supplier self-assessment questionnaires, audits, independent assurance activities, and verification programmes. Support on the commissioning of research and enhanced due diligence for high-risk supply chains.
  • Act as subject matter expert for colleagues across procurement, legal, sustainability, operations, investment and executive teams to support risk-based decision making.


Research and Advisory

  • Support investment strategies by conducting research into credible alternative sourcing routes and new market entrants enabling diversification and the development of more ethical, circular and domestic supply chains.
  • Develop practical guidance and research materials, to help colleagues and partners understand and respond to salient issues.
  • Engage with businesses and partners to support with risk mitigation collaboration and capability building.
  • Support internal and external reporting requirements, including GBE’s Modern Slavery Statement, stakeholder briefings, select committee briefings, PQs and FOIs.
  • Represent the organisation in working groups, roundtables, cross-sector platforms and with Parliamentarians. Support in running the Ethical Supply Chains Advisory Group.


Qualifications and Experience:


Essential:

  • Strong interest in responsible sourcing, ethical trade, human rights, modern slavery or sustainability. Familiarity with high-risk commodities (e.g. solar PV, critical minerals, batteries, steel).
  • Ability to interpret and assess complex supply chain data, identify salient risks, and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent project management skills, with experience managing workstreams, tracking progress, and delivering against deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to develop practical guidance materials for internal and external audiences.


Desirable:
