Description & Requirements

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer for a 12 Months (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid/ in Manchester.


The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives.


Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:


  • Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
  • Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
  • Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
  • Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.


As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • As a Software Engineer you will develop and maintain software products that make up citizen services and contribute towards their design.
  • You will be responsible for the operational stability of the products you build, and be in a position to affect change in the on-going robustness and resilience of those products.
  • You will work within, and contribute to, the overall Software Development Lifecycle Process as part of a multi-functional Agile delivery team focused on one or more products.
  • Senior software engineer is critical to progress work on this team. These services are part of AME Payments, required in the delivery of DWP Strategy/ARA. Without this additional skillset there will be delays in delivering the service, which will have a detrimental impact on dependent consuming services.


Essential:

  • Significant and demonstrable experience of development in open source technologies like JavaScript, Node.js, Test-driven development alongside use of automated test frameworks. Using Linux based Operating Systems like RHEL, working with distributed version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience of leading Software Engineers in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment, delivering products within specific time-scales, being able to quickly comprehend and convert business requirement and user stories into technical solutions and engaging with multiple senior Stakeholders
  • Experience of developing in cloud based environments. Ability to build and test interfaces between systems


Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience working with Software Engineering collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Slack
  • Demonstrable experience of Behaviour Driven Development with tools like Cucumber
  • Experience of modifying and maintaining systems and code developed by other Software Engineers
  • Experience building public facing and internal REST
  • Experience developing software within a Micro-Service architecture
