On behalf of Homes England, we are looking for a Data Governance Lead (Inside IR35) for a 6 month Remote contract, with occasional visits to Homes England offices.
Job purpose
We are seeking a Data Governance Lead to advance data governance across the organisation as part of the wider Data Architecture and Governance team within the Data & Analytics directorate. This role will lead the development, implementation, and management of data governance frameworks, policies, and standards, while working closely with Data Owners and Data Stewards to embed strong data management practices and ensure the quality and integrity of data across the agency.
As a Data Governance Lead, your main responsibilities will be:
- Managing and coaching a team of data governance managers.
- Leading the development and implementation of data governance frameworks, standards and policies, to ensure data quality, integrity and security across the organisation.
- Aligning data governance with the organisation’s data strategy and future ways of working.
- Collaborating with Data Owners and Data Stewards to establish and implement data management policies.
- Working with the DPO and Information Security teams to ensure compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.
- Developing and maintaining metrics to measure the effectiveness of data governance policies, along with reporting on key metrics such as data accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, and lineage.
- Providing regular updates and reports on data governance activities to senior management.
- Leading initiatives to improve data quality, data protection, and data lifecycle management.
- Overseeing the maintenance and continuous improvement of the data governance framework.
- Acting as a liaison between the Data & Analytics directorate and other business units to promote data governance best practices.
Essential:
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and best practices, with experience implementing them in complex organisations.
- Proficiency with data governance tools and platforms (e.g. Microsoft Purview or similar).
- Experience with data quality management, data stewardship and data ownership models.
- Experience driving adoption of data governance across business units.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to data management and protection.
- Strong project delivery skills, with an understanding of Agile ways of working.
- Ability to define, measure and improve data quality through effective use of metrics, analysis and insight.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to develop and guide governance capability.
