On behalf of UKRI we are looking for a Data Risk Business Analyst (Inside IR35) for a 4 month contract. Hybrid working with occasional travel to Bristol.

The REF Data Quality and Assurance Team is responsible for audit, library and information governance tasks throughout this complex, large-scale project. Delivering this work requires a degree of autonomy, with team member proactively engaging colleagues across the REF project to gather accurate information and ensure that data risk assessments reflect UKRI and RE information governance approach and data protection principles, even when they are not themselves subject matter specialists.

As a Data Risk Business Analyst your main responsibilities will be to:
- Develop a working knowledge of REF 2029 data collection processes and requirements, ensuring an up‑to‑date understanding of how data is used and governed across the exercise.
- Build a clear and practical mapping of REF data flows, engaging with colleagues to ensure accurate interpretation and application across project activities.
- Review existing risk assessments, identifying where they should be strengthened, aligned, or consolidated, and report on progress to senior colleagues as required.
- Produce new, well‑structured risk assessments to address identified gaps, ensuring these are communicated effectively to relevant internal stakeholders.
- Act as the key liaison with UKRI Information Governance, ensuring timely engagement, clear communication, and coordinated delivery of agreed actions.
- Where required, draft and maintain the associated transparency statements, ensuring accuracy, clarity and alignment with existing ones.

- Ability to write clear and accurate documentation, including procedures, risk assessments, flowcharts and structured materials.
- Self starter – able to work independently, prioritise effectively, and manage workload in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.
- Ability to quickly learn new processes and subject areas, applying new information with confidence.
- A creative, flexible and positive approach to problem solving, showing initiative and managing ambiguity.
- Team player, able to collaborate effectively and adapt to other sub-teams’ ways of working to gather the information needed.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build constructive working relationships across teams and engage colleagues to gather the information needed to progress tasks.
Desirable:
- Public Sector experience.
- Experience of working with data, spreadsheets or databases, maintaining accurate records and ensuring clarity of information.
- Willingness to develop an understanding of information‑governance and data‑protection principles, applying them thoughtfully to project tasks without needing prior specialist expertise.
