Description & Requirements


On behalf of AWE, we are looking for a People Development Manager (Inside IR35) for a 12 month hybrid  contract based out of Aldermaston.


The successful candidate will have an expectation of 2 office working days per week.


Please also note the Hiring Manager will also consider this opportuity on a prt time basis (30 hours per week)


What if you could work on something that you can’t test… but cannot afford to fail? AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defence against the most serious threats faced by the UK. SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.


As a People Development Manager, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Assess, plan and deliver People Development workstreams (e.g. Professional Development, Future Careers, Learning & Training) across all P3M disciplines
  • Provide advice and recommendations to improve, optimise and strengthen People Development services within the ePMO
  • Collaborate with professional bodies and industry partners to ensure AWE’s P3M capability aligns with best practice and remains industry‑leading
  • Lead, coach and develop a local team, driving delivery of team and individual objectives aligned to the P3M People Capability Strategy
  • Champion high standards across environment, safety, health, security and quality, contributing positively to team culture
  • Manage and deliver assigned People Development workstreams end to end
  • Create and promote professional development opportunities across all P3M disciplines, including competency frameworks, mentoring/coaching, communities of practice and professional memberships
  • Develop and maintain future career pathways into P3M, including Apprenticeship, Graduate, Undergraduate and Trainee schemes
  • Design and maintain a learning and training framework, providing access to appropriate training and conference opportunities to support career progression
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand development needs and set priorities across P3M disciplines
  • Identify, assess and plan future capability requirements using management information, stakeholder insight and industry awareness
  • Maintain and update SharePoint content associated with workstreams to ensure information is current and relevant
  • Support recruitment and resourcing activities as required



Essential:


  • Experience working in a people / HR or learning environment, with a solid grounding in training, competence and capability development
  • Strong HR‑style interpersonal skills, including coaching, influence and relationship‑building
  • Experience operating within a formal HR, learning or people development function
  • Good understanding of P3M environments (Portfolio, Programme & Project Management)
  • Project management knowledge, ideally with experience supporting or working within project teams
  • Background in learning and development, including identifying development opportunities and career pathways
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, engaging effectively across disciplines and levels
  • Experience using learning or training platforms/systems to track, record and manage training activity


Desirable:


  • Experience with Minerva workforce or resource management systems
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 (Primela) planning and scheduling tools
  • Experience using ARM (Active Risk Manager) or similar risk management tools
  • Broader exposure to P3M environments (Portfolio, Programme & Project Management) and associated tools
