Description & Requirements

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Product Manager for a 11 months Inside IR35 contract based Hybrid Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle


The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives.


Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:


  • Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
  • Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
  • Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
  • Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.


As a Senior Product Manager, your main responsibilities will be:


Essential:

  • Own the vision for a complex large product or a portfolio of products, working with stakeholders to ensure strategic fit and engaging the development team to maintain alignment and buy in.
  • AI tooling experience would be a positive
  • Develop the product strategy and manage the product roadmap as well as prioritising the product backlog through a range of techniques to maximise value and return on investment
  • Identify and communicate user needs to the development and delivery team through the creation of backlog items (user stories) and representing users and other stakeholders at team meetings such as planning and review session.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate performance metrics and success measures are In place to meet the needs of the service so that outcomes can be tracked and achieved.
  • Manage, influence and negotiate with stakeholders, sometimes more senior and up to ministerial level, and communicate progress and achievements, championing the product within the department.
  • Lead product team, and ensure the product is developed to an appropriate level of quality taking into consideration expected lifetime, investment and timeframes.
  • Lead on and be accountable for the professional development of all Product Managers in your area.
  • Ensure the team is working towards the appropriate service standards as defined by Government Digital and Data (GDaD) Capability Framework and the internal assurance team, and provide coaching where needed to the product teams.
  • Be an active member of the Product Management Community, attending community sessions and supporting any associated community based activity
  • You will be expected to play a leadership role in the product community by contributing to, leading and building on the Practice work that ensures an effective professional community within the Practice continues to operate at its fullest potential. This includes leading events, educating and coaching community members, and taking the lead on recruitment activity.
