Description & Requirements

On behalf of NS&I (National Savings & Investments), we are looking for a Press Officer (Inside IR35) for 4 month contract based in Riverside House, 2a Southwark Bridge Road – Hybrid, 40% in the office. Flexible with this.

This role is subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard and financial credit checks.

 

As a Press Officer, your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Support the delivery and development of NS&I’s Media and External Affairs plan.
  • Identify opportunities for positive media coverage across digital, print, and broadcast channels.
  • Respond to media enquiries and build strong relationships with journalists.
  • Develop proactive media stories, campaigns, and social media content to promote NS&I initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to share updates and anticipate potential media issues.
  • Manage reputational issues, drafting messaging and attending relevant meetings.
  • Ensure media campaigns align with wider marketing, digital activity, and NS&I strategy.
  • Analyse research and internal data to generate newsworthy stories and insights.
  • Pitch research-led stories and recommend external partners to maximise coverage.
  • Support the production of the Annual Report & Accounts and other corporate publications.
  • Maintain efficient press office processes, media databases, and key messaging.
  • Evaluate communications activity, review performance, and apply learnings to future campaigns.

 

Essential:

  • Experience working in a busy PR team, communications team or agency environment. 
  • Experience creating, monitoring and managing social media content and media relations activity. 
  • Strong understanding of UK consumer media outlets, social media platforms and media database tools. 
  • Ability to analyse research and identify newsworthy insights. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical, financial or business information into clear external messaging. 
  • Understanding of working in a regulated environment and communicating in a compliant way. 
  • Strong news sense and proactive approach to identifying positive media opportunities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support colleagues across teams. 
  • Confidence to act as a spokesperson for print or radio where appropriate. 
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with journalists. 
  • Knowledge of evaluation tools and methods, including social media analytics and Google Analytics, with the ability to assess media coverage and campaign performance. 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working within financial services, government or a regulated industry. 
  • Experience supporting integrated communications or marketing campaigns. 
  • Experience working with research projects and data-led PR campaigns. 
  • Familiarity with stakeholder engagement, including working with government departments or external partners. 
  • Experience contributing to annual reports or corporate publications. 
  • Experience working with media monitoring and evaluation agencies.
