Description & Requirements

On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for a Learning Experience Designer - (INSIDE IR35) for a 12- month contract working on a hybrid basis and with an expectation of 3 days attendance in the Waterloo, London or Milton Keynes office. Travel will be required for this role and rail tickets will be provided

The Role 

As part of the journey to GBR, we face the have the once generation opportunity to equip leaders across the railway system with the knowledge, skills and behaviours that will be needed for the future


We need a high-quality Learning Experience Designer who can turn design concepts into polished, delivery-ready materials —especially simulation packs and facilitator/participant assets.


This role is perfect for someone who loves building the “real thing”: decks, workbooks, templates, scenario artefacts, and materials that make learning experiences run smoothly in the room.


The role is to produce high-quality learning assets and simulation materials at pace to support the mobilisation and piloting of the Academy’s immersive learning days and turn into a scalable proposition for delivery to ~1600 senior rail leaders.


We’re building an immersive GBR Leadership Academy and need a high-quality producer who can turn design concepts into polished, delivery-ready materials — especially simulation packs and facilitator/participant assets.

Person Profile 

A production-focused learning professional who can rapidly turn concepts into polished assets — especially simulation materials and facilitator/participant packs.


Experience & Background: 

  • Experienced in content production / instructional design / learning materials development.
  • Strong practical skills producing:
  • PowerPoint decks and facilitator scripts
  • Workbooks and templates
  • Scenario packs and artefacts
  • Digital assets for virtual delivery (where needed)
  • Experience working in fast-paced design sprints and managing version control.


Skills & Strengths: 

  • Production excellence: clean, professional outputs with consistent branding and layout.
  • Simulation build: creates artefacts that make scenarios feel tangible and usable.
  • Organisation: disciplined file management, version control, and release readiness.
  • Speed with quality: can iterate quickly without degradation.
  • Working Style:
  • Reliable, delivery-oriented, the production engine.
  • Comfortable taking direction from the Director and Senior LXD and turning it into assets quickly.


As a Learning Experience Designer - (INSIDE IR35), your main responsibilities will be:

  • Produce and format delivery-ready assets:
  • decks, workbooks, facilitator guides, handouts, templates


Build simulation artefacts: 

  • Scenario briefs, data packs, decision cards, role profiles, “injects”, timers, checklists
  • Maintain design templates, document standards, and brand alignment.
  • Manage content versioning and ensure a clear “single source of truth”.


Support pilot readiness: 

  • Print packs (if needed), digital packs, and final QA checks
  • Coordinate with virtual delivery colleagues to prepare online-friendly assets.


Deliverables: 

  • Complete asset packs for pilot modules and immersive day(s).
  • Simulation artefact library ready for re-use and scale.
  • Version-controlled repository of materials and templates.


Essential requirements 

  • Experience of Developing learning material for leadership audiences
  • Experience of turning insights into case studies and engaging exercises
  • Exceptional quality standards and attention to detail


Desirable 

  • Rail/transport understanding and experience.
