On behalf of NS&I (National Savings & Investments), we are looking for a Media Relations Manager (Inside IR35) for a 4-6 month contract based working on a hybrid basis and with an expectation of a 40% office attendance over a month in one of the following office sites: London, Glasgow, Durham, Lytham.

This role is subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard and financial credit checks.
As a Media Relations Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead public relations activity to promote and protect the organisation’s brand and retail savings products.
- Develop and implement media relations campaigns aligned with organisational strategy and objectives.
- Identify opportunities to secure positive media coverage for products and initiatives.
- Manage communications around sensitive or contentious issues, including product or rate changes.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts through a structured media engagement programme.
- Work with the Head of Communications to manage proactive and reactive responses to crisis and issues affecting customers.
- Draft media materials including press releases, statements and lines to take (LTT).
- Liaise with internal teams and partner organisations to coordinate messaging during issues or announcements.
- Act as an out-of-hours contact for press office enquiries when required.
- Lead the management of customer complaints raised through media channels, working with customer relations teams to resolve issues.
- Oversee digital communications delivery for corporate social media channels and the corporate website.
- Champion evaluation and measurement of communications activity to inform future campaign planning.
- Support budget oversight and manage external suppliers providing services such as media monitoring and evaluation.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, partner press offices and external organisations.
Essential Criteria:
- Significant experience in media relations or communications, ideally within financial services or a regulated environment.
- Experience working in an in-house communications team or communications consultancy.
- Proven experience developing and delivering media relations campaigns, including research-led campaigns.
- Experience managing crisis and issues communications.
- Experience building relationships with journalists and key stakeholders.
- Experience using social media in a professional communications environment.
- Ability to quickly understand complex issues and respond appropriately with discretion and sensitivity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical, financial or business information into clear and compliant communications.
- Confidence acting as a spokesperson across different media channels including television, radio and press.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working within financial services or another regulated sector.
- Experience working with government communications teams or public sector organisations.
- Experience managing corporate digital channels, including social media and websites.
- Experience managing communications budgets or overseeing external suppliers.
- Familiarity with working alongside partner organisations and press offices.
