Description & Requirements



On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a Vetting administrator (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract based hybrid in Exeter.


Please note the successful candidate will have an expectation of a minimum of 1 day per week in the office.


SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. 



As a Vetting Administrator, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Manage the full end‑to‑end vetting lifecycle for staff, contractors, visiting scientists, collaborators, and work placement students, including new applications, renewals, and leavers, in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Process and manage vetting applications on the relevant systems, including preparing and submitting applications and liaising with UKSV as required.
  • Confirm and transfer existing security clearances held with other government departments, overseeing the process through to completion and actioning outcomes promptly
  • Maintain the Met Office security clearance database, ensuring records are accurate, up to date, and reflect individuals’ current clearance status at all times.
  • Produce and manage photographic, temporary, and access passes, ensuring passes accurately align with an individual’s clearance level and that pass system records are consistently maintained
  • Monitor and manage the Security inbox, responding professionally and promptly to internal and external queries via email, telephone, and face‑to‑face interactions.
  • Record, investigate, and action security incidents, escalating issues appropriately in line with security
  • procedures.
  • Work closely with Reception, ensuring visitors have the correct identification, access permissions, and security clearance before entry is permitted.
  • Provide high‑quality administrative support across the Security function, demonstrating strong attention to detail and confidentiality at all times



Essential:


  • Strong administrative skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced environment
  • Clear and confident written communication skills
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel


Desirable:


  • Experience in security, vetting, or a regulated environment desirable (but not essential)


Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
