Description & Requirements
On behalf of UKRI, we are looking for a Benefits Lead Inside IR35 for a contract ending on 31st of March based REMOTELY with occasional travel to Swindon or London
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is the national funding agency investing in science and research in the UK.
UKRI invests £8 billion of taxpayers’ money each year into research and innovation and the people who make it happen. They work across a huge range of fields – from biodiversity conservation to quantum computing, and from space telescopes to innovative health care. They give everyone the opportunity to contribute and to benefit, bringing together people and organisations nationally and globally to create, develop and deploy new ideas and technologies.
You'll be working on the Research & Development Mission Programme (R&D MAP), a major new government initiative led by UKRI.
The programme will utilise a £500m budget to bring together the private sector, the third sectors and academia to collaboratively develop innovative solutions to public sector problems, resulting in new technologies, services, IP and more.
The programme has been designed to solve the key problems facing HMG’s five national Missions and enable delivery of the milestones in the Plan for Change.
The Government has identified the key problems faced by the UK, to which the R&D Missions Accelerator Programme has designed Research and Innovation (R&I) Challenges to develop solutions. Importantly, these solutions will then be directly utilised in addressing public sector needs.
Delivery is structured through a Hub and Spoke model:
• The Hub: A central team (at UKRI) that coordinates the overall programme.
• The Five Spokes: Programme teams across UKRI Research Councils that are responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of the R&I Challenges within each Mission – Economic Growth, Opportunities, Safer Streets, Heath and Clean Energy.
As a Benefits Lead, your main responsibilities will be to:
• Work with the individual Challenge teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of the different logic models and benefit maps to support and develop rigorous benefits planning.
• Develop benefit logs, profiles, metrics, and monitoring approaches for the programme.
• Work across R&D MAP Challenge Teams and with UKRI stakeholders to develop and execute strategies for benefits tracking, monitoring progress and managing documentation.
• Ensure benefit realisation processes are built into all aspects of the programme and project plans by working with the Challenge teams to support them in implementing benefit realisation in each activity.
• Report key programme metrics to internal and external stakeholders, providing portfolio analysis to colleagues. Identify trends and patterns in data to uncover insights that contribute to the storytelling process.
• Conduct research to identify potential data-driven success stories within the portfolio of projects funded by the Challenge Teams.
• Collaborate with specialist UKRI teams to develop related communications and compelling narratives.
Essential:
• Demonstrable experience in developing benefits management strategies, techniques, and processes in central government
• Experience with benefits mapping and developing and implementing processes related to benefits realisation.
• Strong people management skills, able to build relationships, negotiate, challenge, and influence effectively with people at all levels.
• Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and communicate sensitive information tactfully with diverse groups (including executives).
Desirable:
• Experience of research and innovation (R&I) and the specific challenges it creates for benefit realisation.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
