On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Business Manager (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. This is a hybrid working role (three days per week on site - London or Bristol).

Job Purpose:
The B2 SCD Business Manager provides core business management, governance, senior support and directorate‑wide coordination essential to the functioning of the Commercial Supply Chain Director (SCS2) and Deputy Directors (SCS1), Chief of Staff, the Outer Office, and wider Supply Chain Directorate.
SCD is expanding significantly to meet challenges caused by fragility within critical Defence supply chains and increased strategic complexity. The Business Manager helps ensure that SCD delivers its mission by driving corporate coherence, ensuring organisational readiness, and enabling senior leaders to operate effectively.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As a Business Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Supporting COS to provide Secretariat for SCD senior meetings, including SCD SLT Governance and 1* / 2* engagements.
- Coordinate cross‑directorate contributions for governance products, briefings, commission responses, and corporate returns.
- Maintain Directorate documentation, including action trackers, records, files and work collaboratively with SCD Outer Office to manage multi‑user inboxes.
- during forecasting cycles.
- Lead or support Directorate resourcing, recruitment coordination and workforce planning, ensuring alignment with SCD’s expanding footprint.
- Own, maintain and improve SCD’s end‑to‑end onboarding and offboarding processes, including logistics, security, induction and readiness.
- Support SCD internal and external communication planning, including Directorate updates, news items, and event coordination.
- Support Change Leads and PMO colleagues on drafting communications, scheduling workshops and coordinating engagement activity.
- Enable leadership sessions, “celebrating success” communications and directorate engagement events.
Essential:
- Strong experience supporting senior leaders in complex environments.
- Financial management with costing and budget management.
- High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, SharePoint) aligned with SCD operational needs.
- Experience with governance, assurance, and programme support structures.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills to manage multi‑level SCD coordination.

- Strong experience supporting senior leaders in complex environments.
