On behalf of Government Legal Department, we are looking for a Paralegal - (Inside IR35/PAYE) for a 12-month contract working on a hybrid basis and with an expectation of 3 days attendance in the London office
Role Overview
A GLD Paralegal supports lawyers by performing legal tasks that would otherwise be handled by qualified lawyers. This includes preparing legal documents, conducting research, assisting with project management, and contributing to knowledge management. Occasionally, you may also support Business Management colleagues.
You’ll work under supervision but may have responsibility for specific cases or projects depending on your team. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize, and alignment with GLD’s values are essential.
As a Paralegal - (Inside IR35/PAYE), your main responsibilities will be:
Client Relations
Maintain strong client relationships in line with GLD standards.
Provide legal support and promote legal awareness.
Legal Research & Drafting
Conduct research and prepare notes, advice, and legal documents under supervision.
Assist with drafting legislation, contracts, agreements, and procurement documents.
Project & Case Management
Support large-scale projects and coordinate across government departments.
Manage case files, deadlines, disclosure reviews, and prepare bundles for litigation/employment matters.
Knowledge Management
Collate and share legal updates and maintain accessible knowledge resources.
Legal Service Delivery
Liaise with Parliamentary teams, proofread documents, and attend conferences with Counsel.
Prepare schedules, cost statements, and handle follow-up work for hearings.
Skills & Behaviours

Essential
- Knowledge of legal issues and the context in which GLD operates, with a clear interest in legal work.
- Ability to deliver under pressure.
- Legal experience
- Strong team player, able to contribute to ad-hoc tasks and projects.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills; able to prioritise effectively.
- Ability to critically analyse evidence and make sound recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office / Case Management Systems
Desirable
- Microsoft Office / Case Management Systems
- Legal education and/or experience in a legal, regulatory, or similar environment.
- Familiarity with legal research databases such as Lexis Nexis and Westlaw.
