Communications Officer (Internal and Corporate Communications)
1 X Permanent: Full time 36 hours per week
Salary: £31,500 – £33,100 per annum.
London-based employees receive an additional £3,217 London weighting.
A £312 tax-free working from home allowance is also payable annually.
Location: Remote (UK) or be based on our offices in Belfast, Edinburgh or London

About the role
As a Communications Officer you will be supporting the delivery of internal and corporate communications activity, providing colleagues and stakeholders with timely, accurate, engaging and well-presented corporate information.
You will use a variety of internal communications channels to share information with colleagues, including events, video, newsletters, and digital platforms.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be:
- Support and deliver internal communications activities, including:
- Drafting copy for the intranet and weekly staff newsletter
- Assisting with coordination of all-staff meetings and the annual staff conference
- Supporting the development of the annual report and corporate plan, including drafting content
- Identifying delivery issues and escalating to senior colleagues with suggested solutions
- Developing and delivering communication plans for key corporate projects, delivering communications which are clear, engaging, and aligned to our corporate values
- Assisting in evaluating communication activities, gathering data and reporting on key performance indicators
- Helping gather feedback from staff to inform messaging and ensure communication activity meets organisational needs
- Building relationships across teams, supporting colleagues to communicate their news and updates
- Researching new communications approaches, contributing ideas to improve impact and effectiveness
About the team
The role involves working with colleagues across the Commission, supporting them to communicate their work effectively. You will work particularly closely with colleagues in HR and other corporate service teams, and with the wider communications directorate.
You will be expected to support senior staff, including their line manager, the Head of Internal and Corporate Communications and the Director of Communications and External Affairs.
Who we’re looking for
You will have good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to research, analyse and summarise material. You should possess an understanding of, and interest in, democracy and the electoral processes in the UK.
You’ll ideally have:
Essential:
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent, or equivalent work experience
- Experience of working in internal and corporate communications teams
- Experience drafting and editing content for internal channels
- Experience of using different communications channels and tactics to maximise impact and engagement
- Experience of supporting other professional disciplines with their communications requirements e.g. HR and IT
Desirable
- Some experience gained working in or closely with the public sector
