On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Content Designer for a 12 month contract (Inside IR35) based Hybrid in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield.
We’re looking for a skilled Content Designer to join a multidisciplinary team working on GOV.UK services. You’ll be responsible for creating, updating and improving content across digital and non-digital channels, ensuring it meets user needs and policy intent.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll use data, evidence and research to shape content that’s clear, accessible and user-centred. You’ll collaborate closely with developers, interaction designers, user researchers and policy experts to deliver joined-up user journeys and consistent content experiences.
This role is ideal for someone who has worked on transactional government services, understands GDS style guides and design systems, and can translate complex technical language into clear, user-friendly content.
As a Content Designer your main responsibilities will be to:
- Create and iterate content across digital and non-digital channels.
- Design clear, joined-up user journeys based on evidence and research.
- Use research and analytics to evaluate and improve content.
- Apply GOV.UK style guides, standards and plain English principles.
- Collaborate with technical teams, policy and other disciplines.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive digital culture and content design community.
- Advocate for user-centred, evidence-based content.
- Support internal and external communications (e.g. notifications, letters, SMS).
Essential:
- Proven experience in agile, fast-paced digital environments.
- Substantial experience creating accessible, plain English content using style guides and patterns.
- Use of both quantitative and qualitative data to inform content decisions.
- Experience testing and explaining content in different formats.
- Active participation in a content design community (e.g. peer reviews).
- Collaboration across disciplines (e.g. DevOps, UCD, interaction design).
- Advocacy for user-centred design with stakeholders.
- Ability to show how your work drives organisational outcomes.
Desirable:
- Experience working on transactional government services (e.g. applications, claims, notifications).
- Experience working in government or public sector.
