On behalf of UKSA, we are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant Inside IR35 for a 3 month contract, based Hybrid working (2/3 days per week in either Edinburgh or Cardiff office and remaining WFH)
Purpose of the role
As the Agency grows, there is an exciting opportunity to build and lead our internal communications capability and make a valuable contribution to our wider communications and stakeholder engagement strategy.
Our 200+ staff are our biggest asset and most important stakeholders, and you will be tasked with shaping how, what and why we communicate with them.
You will support our senior leadership team and generate increased levels of trust and confidence in employees located in three different offices, by developing a comprehensive internal communications strategy for the Agency.
You will report directly to the Head of Communications.
Background: The UK Space Agency
The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). It is responsible for UK civil space strategy and provides a clear, single voice for UK space ambitions. At the heart of UK efforts to explore and benefit from space, it is responsible for ensuring that the UK retains and grows its world leading strategic capabilities in space-based systems, technologies, science, services and applications. It does this through well-designed policy initiatives, extensive international collaboration, targeted funding programmes, and an enabling regulatory regime that supports growth whilst safeguarding the UK’s security interests.
Space is an extraordinary and exciting sector that impacts virtually all aspects of our lives. It is a high growth, high productivity sector where targeted government investment stimulates innovation, generates further industrial investment, and creates highly skilled jobs. And it is a sector experiencing disruptive change; with new technologies, business models and market entrants challenging the status quo. The UKSA team must be flexible, dynamic and able to respond rapidly to ensure Government policy and regulation keep abreast of these changes.
UKSA’s overarching goal is to help grow the UK space sector to secure 10% of the global market by 2030. The Agency has four inter-related responsibilities. These are to:
lead UK civil space policy within Government, providing informed and impartial advice to ministers and ensuring the UK’s views are influential in the international space policy environment
build a stronger national space capability encompassing scientific and industrial centres of excellence; national space facilities; and a growing, skilled UK space workforce deliver a range of national and international space programmes in cooperation with industry and academia; and regulate UK civil space activities to ensure compliance with international treaty responsibilities.
The role holder will help drive our financial data, ensuring decisions across the agency are supported by robust and timely management information. They will help to develop and embed a culture of strong financial management across the organisation, by ensuing management information is available when it’s needed.
They will work closely with Finance Business Partners, Financial Control and the wider agency in their role. Their commitment to continuous improvement, automation and efficiency will help to ensure our finance team’s effective delivery of service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, ensuring good controls and checks are in place to maintain accuracy
- Use the management reports to provide meaningful and insightful analysis for senior managers and decision makers
- Undertake all month end activities, including journals, budget profiling and challenging the accuracy of forecasting
- Provide explanations for significant changes in forecast and actuals; provide updates on issues and risks to senior managers
- Produce high quality reports and insightful management information for senior managers
- Cleanse and prepare data for analysis and reporting, addressing any inconsistencies or errors.
- Working closely with FBPs to provide suitable reporting for Agency stakeholders
- Supporting the integrity and accuracy of the financial ledger by regularly reviewing and reconciling data.
- Ensuring Purchase Orders are processed accurately and on time
- Support and facilitate accurate cash forecasting.

Essential:
- Part qualified Management Accountant
- Hands on management accounting experience
- Experience of purchase orders
- Reconciliation experience
- Experience of using Excel
- Experience of using Oracle and Power Bi
Desirable:
- Public Sector experience
