Description & Requirements

On behalf of the Bank of England, we are looking for a Senior Service Designer (Inside IR35) for a 6 Months contract based Hybrid / in LONDON.


SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active SC clearance.

We are hiring a senior service designer to support the lead UCD practitioner on the programme delivering products and services for a complex data ecosystem supporting data consumers, data analysts, scientists and engineers Initially the focus of work will be to:


  • Map current user journeys to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design future-state experiences that inform technical delivery and service definitions.
  • Facilitate co-creation workshops with subject matter experts and stakeholders to explore and validate future scenarios.
  • Develop service blueprints and support early-stage user testing and iteration.


The approach and activities may change as we discover more, and as the programme evolves.


You will work as part of a wider team including alongside a diverse set of stakeholders, such as cloud technology specialists and data specialists, subject matter experts, business analysts and service designers.


While the Bank is a public organisation, we are not part of the UK government, we don’t follow a DDAT or GDS framework. We are therefore looking for practitioners who can flex their approach to meet the complex environment we operate in, that can adapt as necessary and who can demonstrate pragmatism when needed.


As a Senior Service Designer, your main responsibilities will be:

Responsible for understanding end-to-end journeys and shape and refine services for internal users. You will undertake activities to explore the needs of users and design and develop recommendations for how those needs can be met.


Essential:

  • A degree related to service design or extensive experience
  • Minimum 6 years industry experience specifically as a Service Designer, across a diverse range of working environments
  • Ability to align stakeholders and guide cross-functional teams by earning trust and demonstrating credibility
  • Solid capability across the whole Service Design lifecycle - you are strong in both discovery and delivery
  • Extensive experience designing for the complete end-to-end services or journeys, not just the digital touchpoints
  • Experience with a range of tools and methods and knowing when to use which
  • Strong capability in journey mapping, blueprinting and service prototyping
  • Workshop design and facilitation skills
  • Excellent communication skills and coherent and effective storytelling
  • Comfortable working in a large organisation with complex subject matter
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • An engaging portfolio that represents your work


Desirable:

  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry
  • Experience working with complex data services
  • Systems thinking experience
  • Advocating for user centred design across a range of stakeholders, including senior leadership


Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
