Description & Requirements


On behalf of AWE, we are looking for a Construction Manager (Inside IR35) for a 18 month contract based 5 days a week at Aldermaston which is either on site or in the office


AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defence against the most serious threats faced by the UK. Working to support the defence of our country, AWE has a clear mission to keep everyone, the environment, their products and information, sites, and everything around them, safe and secure.


To be responsible for delivering to the Project Manager the construction phase of a project or projects and associated documentation to meet safety, quality, programme and cost objectives, by implementing the project strategy and using the defined arrangements within the Project Delivery Process, Execution and Quality Plans.


DV Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks.  Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. 


As a Construction Manager, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Provide management and governance to maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality across all areas of engineering with specific specialist knowledge within Construction and the nuclear environment.
  • Responsible for the professional development, performance and ethical standards of the staff within their responsibility and reporting chain.
  • Ensure construction teams are appropriately organised and that key personnel are demonstrably competent to undertake their roles.
  • Ensure that commissioning activities follow the appropriate Project Delivery Map.
  • Ensure construction records are maintained to support project handover.
  • Responsible for task management to meet the professional standards, performance and integrity of the work and reporting information necessary to support the project and business objectives.


Key Accountabilities


  • The safety of all staff within the construction site together with the Principal Construction Manager (PCM) and other Package Integration Managers (PIM).
  • Assist in the creation and maintain a culture of zero accidents or incidents relating to occupational and personal safety, security, health issues, and environmental matters.
  • Communicating to employees and contractors of the importance of meeting customer requirements including references to statutory and internal regulatory procedures.
  • Assist PCM in Construction Design Management (CDM) compliance.
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.


Essential Skills


  • Extensive experience in the delivery of construction projects across a portfolio of work from start to finish
  • Task management across construction delivery
  • Stakeholder engagement at all levels which Includes site management and contractors
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of project delivery to tight timescales and deadlines
  • Strong self stater with a proactive approach to all duties


Qualifications


  • Formal construction qualification is essential for this role
  • CSCS level is essential


Desirable Skills


  • NEC4 knowledge and skillset is highly beneficial
  • NEBOSH qualification is highly beneficial
