Description & Requirements
On behalf of The Insolvency Service, we are looking for a Paralegal (Inside IR35) for a 6 months contract based Hybrid - 3 days in Manchester or Birmingham.
As a Paralegal, your main responsibilities will be:
- Reviewing disqualification cases submitted for authority to proceed (ATP) by the Investigation teams, and making recommendations as to whether there is sufficient public interest for disqualification and compensation proceedings.
- Working collaboratively with investigators and chief investigators to ensure appropriate and timely decision making.
- Handling post-ATP matters, liaising with defendants in an appropriate manner; ensuring timely and effective delivery of disqualification and compensation undertakings and giving due consideration to public interest factors throughout.
- Reviewing referrals from Companie House for breaches of the legislation relating to Persons of Significant Control and drafting Charging Decisions for these.
- Arranging and chairing Senior Paralegal monthly technical meetings on a rota basis.
- Working with colleagues across Legal Services Directorate and the Agency to develop and share best practice and policy.
Essential:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- You can work as a team player, with strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to work flexibly, effectively and across teams;
- You have strong organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise caseloads and tasks and work to tight deadlines;
- You demonstrate confidence to act independently and quickly get to grips with a complex area.
- You will have a willingness to adapt to change and promote the positive benefits of a culture of continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986 and experience of working in a legal environment would be desirable.
- Previous experience of working within the Insolvency Service would also be desirable.
