On behalf of the Cabinet Office, we are looking for an AWS Site Reliability Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 2 Month contract based REMOTELY with occasional visits to either London, Manchester or Bristol.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role
The role is for an AWS Site Reliability Engineer, (Reliability and Migration), to work on our AWS modernisation and transformation project focusing on the end-to-end migration plan including automated Pipelines and migration scripts,
Role Description
You will be joining a team that develops and manages the cloud hosting infrastructure for the CO. The infrastructure hosts almost 700 Linked AWS accounts. You will be working closely with the AWS modernisation account management engineers to craft a tailored AWS migration plan that aligns with our objectives to migrate 290 AWS Linked accounts comprising dev, test and prod configurations, data and workloads from incumbent AWS organisation to the new AWS Organisation configured with the AWS Control Tower in a phased manner. Leveraging a DevOps-first approach, the crafted plan shall deploy our AWS solution swiftly to maximize efficiency and accelerate our time to value.
The expected outcome is delivery of migration and access plans with automated pipelines and scripts.
You need to address several key challenges:
•Security and Compliance: Ensuring adherence to security and regulatory standards requires careful configuration of AWS security measures.
•Minimizing Downtime: Planning and testing are crucial to reduce downtime and maintain business operations during migration.
•Data Transfer and Low Latency: Moving large datasets can be time-consuming and costly, with potential latency issues during access.
•Change Management: Migration involves significant changes to processes and roles, necessitating a change management plan and action strategy
•Skills Gap: Document thoroughly all the artefacts and steps to reproduce the crafted plan and deliverables including training and sharing capability
Skills Required:
•Proficient in AWS cloud migrations and modernisation
•Experience with AWS cloud platform including AWS services: Glue, S3, Athena, IAM and Apache Iceberg
•Experience with software configuration management (SCM) tools such as Ansible, Terraform, AWS Config, Puppet, or Chef.
•Strong scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, or Ruby.
•Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
•Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
•Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or similar.
•Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues.
•Strong SQL skills and experience with Database Technology
•Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, pull requests, automated tests, scripted deployment and infrastructure as code pipelines and related tools like GitHub CI, or AWS CI
•Testing experience: unit testing, integration testing, performance testing, user acceptance testing - automated where time and cost effective
•Code reviews, working in the open, proactively pulling work through
•Give consideration to observability, whole life costs and sustainability
•Able to take security requirements and best practices into the design. Authentication and Authorisation. Field level, row level and data set level access control. Encryption at rest and in flight
•Experience with CI/CD pipelines and related tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Travis CI.
•Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
•interest in forming government best practices, standards and policies
